Hey there, mamas!
February is all about LOVE, right?
Hearts, pink, red, cuddles on the couch… but I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how we can stretch that love a little further this year. My girls are at the perfect ages where they’re starting to really GET what kindness means…not just saying “sorry” when they snatch a toy, but actually doing something thoughtful for someone else.
Last week we were at the grocery store, and my oldest spotted an older lady struggling with her cart in the parking lot. Without me even saying anything, she ran over (after I nodded yes!) and held the door. The woman’s face lit up, and she said, “You just made my whole day, sweetheart.” Cue the mommy heart explosion.
That moment stuck with me. So this February, we’re turning up the kindness dial with a super simple family service project that even toddlers can help with: Love Notes & Little Goodies bags for seniors.

Why This One Feels So Right for February
- It ties perfectly into Valentine’s Day without being all about candy overload.
- It gets our kids thinking about people outside our cozy little bubble — especially folks who might feel lonely when the weather’s gray and days are short.
- It’s LOW pressure, no big commitments. You can do it all from home in an afternoon.
What You’ll Need (Keep It Easy!)
- Small paper bags or treat bags (dollar store wins)
- Construction paper, markers, stickers, heart doilies — whatever craft supplies your kids already have scattered everywhere
- A few little goodies: packets of hot cocoa, wrapped cookies, tea bags, fuzzy socks, a small puzzle book, or even homemade bookmarks
- Optional: printed “You Are Loved” tags or just hand-written notes
How We’re Doing It Step-by-Step
- Craft the Love Notes
We sit down together and each kid makes 5–10 hearts or cards. They draw pictures, write (or dictate to me) things like:- “You make the world brighter!”
- “Thinking of you with a big hug ”
- “You are special because…” (then they fill in silly/cute things like “you have cool stories” or “you’re someone’s grandma!”)
My toddler just scribbles and slaps stickers — still counts!
- Fill the Goodie Bags
Pop in 2–3 small items + the note. We added hot cocoa because who doesn’t love a warm mug on a cold day? Tie with ribbon or a twist of baker’s twine for that cute factor. - Deliver with Love
- Drop them off at a local senior center, assisted living facility, or church group (call ahead — most LOVE surprise kindness drops!).
- If you have a neighbor who’s elderly and lives alone, walk over together as a family.
- Or mail a few to a grandparent or far-away relative for extra reach.
We’re aiming for 20–30 bags total. Nothing huge, but enough that the kids feel like they really made a difference. The best part? Watching their faces when they imagine someone opening the bag and smiling. That’s the real February magic…teaching our littles that love multiplies when you give it away.
Mamas, if you try this (or have your own twist!), I’d love to hear how it goes. Did your kids get creative with the notes? Did someone’s day get brighter? Drop a comment or DM me a pic…my heart needs to see those sweet moments!
Here’s to a February full of cozy snuggles AND big-hearted kindness.
XOXO,
Mary
(Still finding glitter in weird places from craft time… send help… or coffee ) P.S. If you want a quick printable heart template for the notes, let me know…I can whip one up and share!
