“I’m BOOORRREEEDDD!!!!”

Oh don’t tell me you don’t get those words coming out of your child’s mouth…I would tell you you’re lying! LOL

In all reality, kids need structure to their day…whether they are 1 month or 18 years old. Structure creates a feeling of safety and security. Making it a point to create structure in your household will only make life MUCH easier and I PROMISE you will hear less of “I’m Bored!” comments coming from your child’s oh so clever mouth.

Toledo Parent (or any city parent magazine for that matter) has a TON of ideas and events to do with your child(ren). I get the free magazine from any local grocery store, library, post office, etc. and map our month out on the first day. What activities would my kids enjoy?, What activities should we skip?, What activities would make good play dates?, What activities are educational?, What activities are FREE?

Once the month is mapped out, I then hit it into planning gear. Who can join us on our excursions? The texts start flying and before I know it, the month is planned! I aim for 3 activities a week to keep us busy and entertained. Most activities are in the morning so we can get home in time for lunch and naps.

Don’t get me wrong…I know that a child’s schedule can be too busy. I am conscious of how much I am piling on the plate and know when to take a step back. A good indicator I have found is when my daughters start complaining about leaving the house to go somewhere. THAT is my clue to take a break and RELAX.

Here is our typical day’s schedule:

7:00 AM-Wake Time, Breakfast, Get Dressed, Homeschool Work

Between 9:00 & 10:00 AM-Out of the house for our excursion for the day

12:00 PM-Lunch

1:00 PM-Naps

4:30 PM-Girls Awake, Dinner, Play Time, Homeschool Work

7:00 PM-Bedtime

We pretty much stick to the above schedule plus or minus a few things that may hiccup our day. It isn’t so much about what you do with your day as much as it is about the time spent together…those are the moments that matter most! I am making memories and creating memories for my girls…THAT is priceless!
